The ASUS Eee really is pretty sweet. A 7" screen seems small on consideration, bit with a decent resolution (800*400) it actually looks pretty good. Plus it is really cheap.

Hi Paul:

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the club. check out macx.cn all things Mac. I also found a good supplier in Beijing that offers HK price on Apple hardware.

I just swapped out my PB12's hard drive after the original 40G died. Found a great deal on 120G Hitachi for 450 Yuan in ZGC. Thank God for ifixit.com that took me step by step to take my PB apart, it wasn't easy but I had fun.

Check out VodooPad, a personal wiki. My currently project is to find a free and easy to install wiki on our family imac and build a wiki intranet at home. After what I did for Symbio I am addicted to wiki. Let me know if you have any advice in this. My goal is to set up a family intranet to share our projects, calendars and blog/journals as well as photos.

I like MindManager, it's quite expensive, I came across a low cost simpler alternative a while back for OS X. Can't quite remember. What we need is a cross between MM and Wiki! Now, wouldn't that be awesome!

Jake got me on Battlestar Galactica, so I am a little hooked on it right now. later dude!

Hi Paul

Thanks for the post. I have been considering switching to a Mac once my four-and-a-half-year-old HP laptop finally gives out. Your post is really pushing me towards doing this.

I'll probably wait until my next visit to Canada in June 2008 to do this (as an early birthday gift to myself) as I'm concerned about the after sales service in China. Was there any factors that caused you to buy the Mac in the US over China?

J.

Hi John--

Thanks for your posting and hope you have a good upcoming New Year.

Aside from the fact that I was visiting the US, there really was no reason for buying the US. It was nice to order and then to arrive in the US and find the toys waiting though...So the Internet can be like Santa Claus!

I wouldn't worry about after-sales service in China; they will be opening up a flagship store in Beijing in 2008, and it is likely that they will be paying more attention to sales in China. Check out this posting of a meeting with Steve Jobs:

Hope this information is useful...

Sounds like a very nice Macbook.

I was dying to buy one, but I think I may have to settle for a less spectacular laptop in favour of keeping to my new year's budget. :(

While I love to hate Microsoft, I have to say they are at a disadvantage when it comes to building operating systems.
Apple has to build an OS for Apple hardware.
Microsoft on has the daunting task of building an OS for EVERYONE'S hardware.

Focusing on making an existing OS better rather than coming out with completely new one might have served them better. None of these fancy bells and whistles that they rolled out with Vista...

In any case, Merry Christmas Paul, and enjoy your new toys!
